Reeling in the Years is a television series shown on RTE.
Each episode, running for about 25 minutes, reviews the events of a particular selected year, from 1962 to 2009. News archive footage features, along with subtitles as the means of narration, to recount important national and international events of the time. Music from the selected year plays across the footage, with occasional scenes of live performances or music videos, often (but by no means exclusively) by an Irish artist.

In this edition, a look back at 1964 when Lyndon Johnson won a landslide victory in the US, Cassius Clay became Muhammad Ali and World Champion, and fighting in Vietnam began in earnest.
Closer to home, in the UK a series of riots broke out in southern England and in Ireland the stars for the 1964 Jacob's TV awards were announced and Gay Byrne and Kathleen Watkins marry.
